Virgin Media to Recruit 500 Contact Centre Staff Across the UK

Virgin Media have announced plans to recruit 500 new contact centre employees across the United Kingdom in response to increased customer demand and disruption to overseas customer service operations caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The new roles will be based at existing Virgin Media sites in Teesside, Sheffield, Manchester and Birmingham. Recruitment will be fast-tracked  remote video interviews to ensure positions are filled quickly.

The decision follows a significant rise in customer enquiries, driven by a surge in home working and increased demand for enhanced broadband services. At the same time, restrictions in countries such as India and the Philippines have impacted the company’s offshore call centre operations.

Abby Thomas, Customer Director at Virgin Media, said:

“We are committed to supporting our customers during this unprecedented time. By expanding our UK-based teams, we can respond more effectively to increased demand while maintaining high levels of service.”

Virgin Media has implemented a range of safety measures to protect employees working on-site. These include enhanced hygiene protocols, social distancing practices, reconfigured workspaces, and splitting teams across different floors to minimise risk. Remote working options are also being deployed where possible.

The move reflects broader industry efforts to strengthen operational resilience as telecom providers adapt to evolving challenges brought on by the global pandemic.
