It has been reported that two NHS Ambulance Service 999 Contact Centre run by the East of England Ambulance Trust (EEAST) are set to close.
The East of England Ambulance Trust (EEAST) have confirmed that its two contact centres based in Bedford and Chelmsford would close with the trust investing in a new contact centre in Essex whilst also retaining its existing site in Norwich.
EEAST said its trustees made the decision at a meeting on Wednesday 7th May 2025.
“The board agreed in principle to retain the EOC at Norwich, to close the EOCs at Bedford and Chelmsford and to invest in a new operations centre in Essex, subject to a full business case,”
“This is the best option for our future resilience and for the service for our patients.”
The Trust confirmed that it would be up to 2 years before the new Essex based contact centre would be operational and that all existing EOCs would remain operational until then.
