“International Women’s Day is a day of reflection. It’s a day for me to think about all the women throughout history who paved the way for where we are today—it’s a day to celebrate their accomplishments and appreciate their sacrifices. Employers can build a work environment that champions gender equality by becoming aware of and acknowledging the existence of gender inequality. It seems obvious, but there’s a surprisingly large number of people who deny the reality and lived experiences of the “other,” which in this case is women.

“Additionally, work environments must champion intersectionality in gender equality. As a black woman, I feel very strongly about this. Women are not a monolith, and when you intersect gender with race, for example, then we’re dealing with compounded inequality that must be championed. Work environments need to do the work. Many organisations like to talk the talk, but women want actual, productive change, not just lip service.

“I’ve seen individual organisations step up to create policies that address gender equality issues, such as policies targeting the gender wage gap. More interest, funding, and marketing dollars go into getting girls and young women interested in and involved in STEM careers. This International Women’s Day, we aim to inspire inclusion by being a voice for women, advocating for women, and giving women opportunities to flourish.”

Nicole, Product Manager, Calabrio

“Each International Women’s Day, I often think about the path so many brave and spirited women laid before me so I could be here today. In this way, I think about how I can pay this forward for women of the future to have even more success than I do! Gender equality isn’t just about what happens in the workplace. It’s about laying the groundwork for a girl to believe she can be whatever she wants from a young age and then supporting her in the workplace to embrace the many expectations heaped on women.

“Women must still compete in a man’s world AND maintain their home obligations outside the office. Women are expected to have their cake and eat it, too, which is a very high bar for entry.”

“We’re seeing a higher rate of neurodiversity in women as we learn more about how this presents in girls and women. Consequently, it’s essential to acknowledge that the female leaders of tomorrow will and should break the mould of what women have been expected to be to this point; companies should seek to understand and embrace these differences, especially in tech. I want more organisations to treat others as they would like to be treated, regardless of gender. Seek to understand and empathise. Ask questions instead of judging.”

Ana, Vice President,Professional Services, Calabrio

“International Women’s Day is an opportunity for all of us — men and women – to set an intention towards what we want this day to be.

“Gender equality starts with building a pipeline – companies should look at filing entry level roles with some solid women candidates and mentor them to become leaders in the future. Calabrio embodies an inclusive culture and we have plenty of women in leadership roles here, and further empowering women to be tech leaders
