Sussex Police Tops National 999 Response Times

Sussex Police has been ranked the top performing force in the country for answering 999 calls, leading national response statistics for the fourth month in a row.

National figures show the force’s Sussex Police contact centre answered more than 98% of emergency calls within 10 seconds, outperforming every police force across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland between August and November 2025.

In November alone, Sussex Police handled 22,077 emergency 999 calls, with an average answer time of just four seconds.

The achievement follows significant improvements in contact technology, which have transformed how 999 and 101 calls are routed and managed within the Force Contact and Control Room. Enhanced data analytics now provide clearer insight into demand, staffing levels and available resources, enabling officers and staff to be deployed more quickly and effectively.

Chief Superintendent Rachel Glenton said:

“Behind every call is someone who needs help. Being ranked top in the country shows the commitment of our teams to being there for our communities when it matters most.”

“This achievement reflects the dedication of our control and contact handlers, who work around the clock in our control room in Lewes, as well as the improvements we’ve made to our systems and processes to ensure we are always ready to respond.”

Sussex Police remains committed to maintaining these high standards, ensuring emergency calls continue to be answered quickly and effectively so communities across Sussex receive help when they need it most.
