The Royal Bank of Scotland Group have announced plans to close their contact centre in Leicester after deciding not to renew the lease on the building, Bede House, Western Boulevard.
The contact centre employs 300 staff handling calls from both RBS and NatWest customers with plans to vacate the site by November 2018 and offering staff the opportunity of redeployment within the banking group or redundancy.
A Spokesperson for RBS said,
“Customers will not be impacted by this decision, however we unfortunately expect the exit of this building to result in around 179 roles being made redundant.
“We realise this is difficult news for our colleagues and we are doing everything we can to support those affected.
“We have been in discussions with the new owner of the building to understand their longer term view of the site.
“It is with regret we have made the decision to exit the site by the end of November 2018, which sadly means a number of our colleagues have been put at risk of redundancy.”
“We will ensure compulsory redundancies are kept to an absolute minimum.
