Convergys - Celebrate 20 Years in Newcastle
Global Outsourcer Convergys Corporation celebrates this week the 20th anniversary of its Newcastle contact centre site with an array of local festivities.
The celebrations, which include The Oscar Awards-themed on-site activities, contests and prizes, take place in recognition of Convergys’ employees and their hard work and commitment to the company and the local community. This dedication has been formally recognised by the North East Contact Centre Awards with the Newcastle site receiving the Contact Centre Team of the Year Award in 2012.
The activities began on Monday 25th February, and will culminate on Friday evening with a formal gala for employees at the Assembly Rooms in Newcastle. A key highlight of the week was yesterday’s commemorative luncheon with local dignitaries.
Since its opening, Convergys and its employees have been deeply involved in a number of charity initiatives. The Convergys Newcastle site has partnered with BBC Children in Need, Longbenton Sure Start Children’s Centre, Comic Relief, Sports Relief, and Help 4 Heroes, among other community organisations.
“We are honored to have served the community for the past two decades, and we wanted to ensure we recognise and reward our talented employees who are the backbone of our organisation and make the Newcastle site and our company the success it is today,” said Helge Tonnesen, Convergys Newcastle site leader.
Councillor Jackie Slesenger, Lord Mayor of Newcastle, and Linda Arkley, Elected Lord Mayor of North Tyneside, helped celebrate the anniversary at a Convergys-hosted luncheon for executives, including Senior Vice President of Human Resources Curt Stoll, who served as managing director of the site from 1992 to 1994.
“I’m proud to have been here to help open the site,” said Stoll. “The business growth from then until now is amazing, and I’m glad that I could return to Newcastle to help celebrate its success.”
“Convergys is an asset to the Newcastle community,” said Councillor Slesenger. “We recognise the company as a longstanding job provider, but we’re also proud of the charity work that they’ve done over the years.”
